Due to a misconfiguration in one of our client's services, today a "DDoS like" situation was caused due to massive traffic incoming from our client's infrastructure to our servers.
Our Web Application Firewall (WAF) correctly identified the traffic as being legit in general, and let the traffic pass. As a result, part of our servers was overloaded from 10:26 AM today, causing timeouts and connectivity issues to parts of our visitors. We were able to isolate the troublesome traffic stream and were able to restore normal operations at 10:40 AM today, after 14 minutes.
We are working to reconfigure our WAF to better handle such scenarios in the future and prevent the system to run into trouble due to extreme but legit traffic.
